Origin: Self Heal is a very common plant that grows in fields, gardens and just about everywhere and is native to Europe, Asia and North America.  Self Heal’s German name brunellen is the name for the mouth and throat inflammation since it is well known for its ability to heal bacteria and virus infections in the mouth and throat.

Description: Self Heal stems to 40+cm tall.  Four angled leaves grow from fibrous roots in a single base.  Flowers are whitish-purple and occur May through September.

Uses: Self Heal has been used for all kinds of ailments.  It is well known for its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.  It is a safe herb that can be used internally and externally. Internal uses are many and include bleeding, diarrhea, fever, gout, diphtheria, colic, convulsions, liver weakness, sore throats, and miscellaneous wounds.  Chemical Constituents: Pentacyclic triterpenes (betulinic, oleanolic ursolic acids), essential oil, rutin, beta carotene, vitamins B-1, C and K, tannin.
